Entries for September, 2007

Royaume 2007 :: Soleil Noir~
Such a long and exhausting weekend... For me, it started Thursday with shopping, sewing, ironing and packing... I worked so well on Thursday that I found myself empty handed on Friday morning. Quiet morning but the stress level was going up. I think I checked at least 4 times I wasn't forgetting anything. Then, it was time to bring the cat to my mom, fill in the car and pick up Noémie for some more shopping before going to Romont. Good thing I had this stop to make otherwise, I would have forgotten the most important thing: the dress.

We arrived at Romont around 6:00 pm I think. Shark, Catta, Solo and Wolf were already there. Nothing much we could do on our side. Shark and Wolf went to prepare what would be the tavern. People started to arrive already. It was quite disturbing to have to keep an eye on a dozen people when we have to prepare the site at the same time. When my bro and Laëti arrived, we started installing our camp, away from the noisy-to-be player's camp.

I don't really remember what we did in the meantime. I was tired and in a bad mood... Hicks tried to get a smile from me but I just couldn't. Late in the evening, we started to prepare the packs we were going to give to the players. I made sure to check again with everyone what needed to be put in the bags, although the next morning, something was missing... We had to open all the bags again.

People started to arrive quite early in the morning although we didn't plan to start the registration before 10am. I think we were late on that part. Noémie and Talisker were here too so it was quite easy to handle. We ate quickly while still welcoming people and finally had to take turns to change into our costumes.

The briefing started late, Swissknife wasn't ready, Olivier took over on the rules' explanation (memorable 'sauter la rondelle'), Hicks talked, talked, talked and I think we were 1h late to begnin the game. Too bad. On the field, the tavern tender job turned out to be way more difficult than I thought. We had a lot of 'clients', surprisingly and I was glad Noémie came to help me. She was a terrific help.

The evening passed too fast. Fortunately, I had time to exchange a few words with Yankee in the queue for the raclette. I would have exchanged a few words too with Glad if Spyke didn't decide to play some rugby with me in the middle. I was so tired, I went straight to bed around midnight after the lottery and the speech...

Next morning... Really tough! We managed to sleep 5~6h but I was still lacking good rest. Off for the breakfast, preparation, costume contest and briefing. Again, 1h late for the beginning of the game.

Exhausting morning serving drinks and all... End of game. Bleh!

After that, debriefing... End of the weekend... This time, we weren't the last one to leave. My car's battery got managed to empty totally and on a Prius, it's quite the challenge. So as soon as I could start the car – thanks to Shark – we took off! And no, it wasn't an excuse!

Today, 4 days after the OP, I'm still tired as hell. I hope the upcoming weekend will help me catch up some sleep and rest.

Overall conclusion: It was OK, but it could have been much, much better.
These Little Events...~
... that makes you feel like crap.

Passed midnight, the phone rings. At that time, you can only think of bad things happening. People in really deep shit, accident or even death.

But nope! It was just this guy from somewhere in the Southern part of France who needed me to pass a message to some other guy in Paris... Like... I knew you would be home, I knew you would be on your computer and I knew you wouldn't be in bed yet. And oh! By the way, hello, how are you, it's been a while.

Not mentioning his girlfriend on the background almost insulting me... What am I saying... Cleary insulting me.

Some people have nerves. I just hanged up and went back tom my boring-stupid-ass-predictable life.
Exciting News Or How To Get Fired Before The End Of The Year~
This year, when I had some calm period of time at work I started to draw a little on post-it, on corners of note books, in my agenda, etc. My manager - who's such a great inspiration for my sarcastic drawings - started to put them on her wall. It is now covered with post-its and it looks really messy (or so I think). But she loves it and never miss an opportunity to show them off.

This year is also the year my company decided to develop the charity events in Europe. Working at Polo Ralph Lauren, we - of course - started with the famous Pink Pony event. This will be the very fist Pink Pony week in Europe and it'll be held in Geneva starting in 11 days. For one of the 'Pink Pony week' day, we have been asked to volunteer to bake a little something that we will be selling to our neighbors in the building. One of my colleague insisted so much on making us bake pink cakes that it inspired me a little drawing.

But this colleague happen to be part of the organization comity and she didn't wait long before forwarding the drawing to some people in said comity. Our HR big boss was on copy... Ahem.

Well, I've been asked to be part of every meetings and events as an observer and to draw whatever I felt like drawing. At the end of the event, there will be a book prepared to commemorate this first edition of the Pink Pony in Europe and my drawings will be illustrating all this. The scary part being... The book will be offered to some quite important people in the company like Mr. Number-Two-Farah... and to Ralph Lauren himself.

Now, you can think I'm a big fat liar. I don't care. I'm freaking excited! \o/ I just hope they won't change their mind...
